The Grout Medic can refinish your marble or travertine tile

Natural Stone Refinishing: This is how we do it.

While we are known for our grout cleaning San Diego, The Grout Medic’s grout and tile specialists are trained and experienced to care for your travertine and marble tile.  We know that any natural stone surface, which has been etched, requires the utmost attention, and that’s what we provide.  By hand, our natural stone refinishers will gently hone the damaged top layer of your marble or travertine, using special diamond-embedded resurfacing pads.  In phases, we will work to gently remove the outermost damage of your tiles, with each pad finer than the next.  This process will produce the proper final surface finish.  A honed finish is one that is often used for flooring applications, and high-use areas.  This is a smooth finish but does not have a high-gloss or light-reflecting appearance.  This finish makes care much more manageable.

Why does your travertine and marble require such care?

Natural stone is desirable because of their varied patterns and colors, more than anything.  Marble and travertine can really add richness and beauty that is hard to match with man-made tile.  These natural materials are not as resilient as man-made products, however.  Both travertine and marble are calcareous stone, which means they contain calcium carbonate, and are naturally chalky.  Acid-based cleaning solutions will cause etching to your calcareous stone and should be avoided.  Travertine and marble can also become damaged with cleaning products that have abrasives that cannot be felt to the touch.  Many products that are not sold as abrasive cleaners, can still have fine granules, which will harm the surface of your marble or travertine.  In the end, nature-made materials will require more delicate care, but the payoff is in the beauty they provide.  If you require cleaning and care for your natural stone tiled surfaces, The Grout Medic of San Diego Metro can provide both.
