Over the last year or so, we have heard much about the “new normal.”  We have adjusted our lives according to times of trial and uncertainty.  As homeowners, we have begun home repair projects that have been kept waiting for a very long time.  Essentially, more time at home has meant we have spent more time scrutinizing areas of disrepair.  The Grout Medic of San Diego Metro is here to tell you that failing or crumbling grout does not have to be a part of your new normal because it’s anything but.  Even new grout can be bad – age is of no consequence.  Take a look at your tiled surfaces.  Do you see grout breakage?  If so, it’s time you called The Grout Medic for an in-home regrouting consultation.

Regrouting San Diego: What’s the harm in failing grout?

If you have experience with one or more tiled areas in your home, for which the grout began to crack and crumble, you know that it is at least unattractive.  At most?  Well, think about the function of grout lines.  What are they for?  Of course, they give tiled surfaces a finished aesthetic, but grout serves a much greater purpose than aesthetic appeal.  Proper grout is required to hold together your tiles.  It forms a bond between each tile by adhering to the tile edge.  This bond, when properly achieved, will strengthen your tiled surface, and make it impermeable to water.  What then, if your grout begins to wear away?  Once that grout bond is breached, the surfaces of the tile as a whole, as well as singular tiles, are weakened.  This means that your floor tiles will be in a weakened state to handle foot traffic and impact, which over time, will result in loose or broken tiles.  Once that happens, tile repair and/or tile replacement will be required in addition to total regrouting.

A breached grout bond in your showers and baths means even more.  Water will impede the tiny fractures and areas of broken grout lines and will eventually seep to and saturate the structure underneath and behind your shower floors and walls.  This will lead to much larger home repairs than regrouting – water damage repair is time-consuming and very costly.  The Grout Medic’s regrouting service throughout the San Diego Metro is the perfect solution for allaying potential future damage to your tile and to your home.
